On Wednesday, November 1, Victoria ISD selected Philip Scott, a dedicated teacher at VISD Success Academy, as its November 2023 Champion of the Month.
In May of 2021, VISD and Atzenhoffer Chevrolet began a partnership to highlight one VISD staff member each month during the school year as the “Champion of the Month.” This staff member is nominated by their peers for their outstanding commitment towards their work and their dedication towards our students.
At VISD, we know our best work is done in partnerships and groups, all while aiming toward a common goal. The goals of the district are larger than the team, and the goals of the team are larger than the individual. Our Champions of the Month live this belief every day and, in turn, receive a brand new Atzenhoffer Chevrolet truck to drive around for the next month.
When asked how he felt to have been honored with this award, Scott said, “I honestly don’t expect these things. I do the work because that’s what I’m supposed to do. I appreciate all of this.”
However, Scott’s colleagues and students know that his work goes beyond his job description as he has consistently gone above and beyond to ensure that his students receive the best education and support possible.
David Clemons, Assistant Principal at VISD Success Academy, nominated Scott. “Mr. Scott never misses a day of school,” said Clemons. “Every time you go by Mr. Scott’s classroom, he is ALWAYS helping students work through their math assignments. He is seated in a student desk, helping and working through the problems alongside his students. He doesn’t just tell them or show them how to do it. He does it with them. They are working together, teacher and student. This is the very definition of teaching and mentoring. Teaching is a RELATIONSHIP and Mr. Scott has it mastered."
From VISD, we thank you, Philip, for being an outstanding member of #TeamVISD and making us #VISDProud!
