credit recovery

The sudden relocation of Liberty Academy Credit Recovery to the Dr. Robert Jaklich Conference Center initially was a point of concern for many in the community, however, it has opened the door for a community partnership to provide an unexpected opportunity for credit recovery students.

“Our terrific partners at Victoria College have stepped up to help us in our time of great need. Time and time again, they stand at the ready to help us problem solve and find creative solutions for the ever-changing educational environment” said VISD Superintendent, Dr. Quintin Shepherd. “In this instance, they are not only helping us solve a space issue because of the Stroman displaced students, but found a way to incorporate our notion of the “and” in creating an opportunity for our students.”

Victoria ISD and Victoria College (VC) are partnering to provide a college prep program opportunity for Liberty Academy Credit Recovery students. Through an application format, sophomore, junior, and senior credit recovery students can apply for acceptance to attend credit recovery classes on the Victoria College campus and have access to industry-based certifications. This would also provide the opportunity for students to seamlessly transition into VC as full-time students.

The application opens Monday, Sept. 20, and closes on Thursday, Sept. 30. Seat availability is limited.

To be eligible students must be:

  • Enrolled in Liberty Credit Recovery

  • Currently above the 75% attendance threshold

Students who are accepted must:

  • Maintain a 90% attendance rate

  • Refrain from any behavior which might result in a disciplinary referral

In addition to providing classroom space on their campus, VC will provide access to free tutoring for credit recovery classes, counseling support to help students meet their goals and determine what degree and/or certifications options available at VC is most appealing to them and assistance throughout the college application and FAFSA application process.

“We are excited to welcome Victoria ISD’s credit recovery students to Victoria College,” said VC President Jennifer Kent. “Through this unique partnership, high school students will be introduced to Victoria College and be given opportunities to participate in campus tours to learn about the many academic and training offerings at Victoria College.”

Students will be notified of their acceptance on Monday, Oct. 4. More details will be provided to accepted students and parents at orientation, tentatively scheduled for Monday, Oct.11.

Liberty Academy Credit Recovery at Victoria College (LARC@VC) will begin classes on Monday, Oct. 18.
