Board approves salary increases

The Victoria ISD is making good on its promise to continue to make competitive pay a priority in order to attract and retain the finest staff for our students.

At the Thursday, May 19, Victoria ISD School Board Meeting, trustees approved 6-1 pay increases for staff across the District in addition to the retention and acquisition stipends approved at the January 2022 school board meeting.

For the 2022-2023 school year, employees and staff of the District will see a 2% of mid-point pay increase.

For a teacher, this is a $1,100 pay increase in addition to a step increase for years of service. VISD is also increasing its starting teacher salary to $48,200. For 2022-2023, a teacher will increase their salary by $1,100 and is also eligible for the $3,000 one-time retention stipend paid for by ESSER III funds and a $1,000 one-time stipend for possessing or obtaining an ESL Certification before September 1, 2022. Therefore, a teacher could see a minimum increase in pay for 2022-2023 of $5,100.

Additionally, the District is moving its starting pay and making adjustments accordingly for Classified, Clerical-Paraprofessional, Instructional Administrative, and Business Administrative positions. Entry-level Para-Professionals will now see a starting hourly rate of $11, the highest ever for Victoria ISD. Classified employees will see a starting per hour rate of $10.25, also the highest ever for the District. Various other pay schedules across the District will see an increase based on the 2% model including substitute workers, part-time staff, and others who are paid based on a hiring schedule in the compensation plan.

All employees on one of the various hiring schedules are also eligible for the one-time retention stipend of either $3,000 for professionals and $1,500 for paraprofessional/clerical and classified staff.

As the District continues to look for budgeting efficiencies across the district, VISD will continue to be a district with competitive pay for its employees.

The cost of the pay increase and adjustments will total approximately $2.7 million dollars.
